Kalika Mindspace was founded in April 2019, in Chennai, India. We currently offer most of our services online.
I am the founder and primary consulting psychotherapist at Kalika Mindspace. I hail from Chennai, India with a mixed heritage. I have often found it hard to relate and connect with my roots. It inspired me to explore who I am outside the limitations of culture, religion and tradition.
I studied Psychology from the early age of 15, at school, graduation and then post-graduation. In my studies, I became deeply fascinated with the pathology of mental health conditions. University taught me how to identify, diagnose and treat while, at the same time, pathologizing the human and stigmatizing mental health. I found this methodology to be disagreeable in my experience.
Once out of university, in supervised practice, I began to train and explore other methods and modalities of healing, which were person centered and took into account a decolonized view. I believe that the human being is a complex phenomenon and so much is still undiscovered.
My practice is informed by the principles of Jungian depth-psychology and somatic psychotherapies.
I am fascinated by Shamanic, Pagan cultures and mythology and what they have to offer the world of healing.
One of my biggest interests lies in the study of Psychedelics in psychotherapy. In the last few years, I have been
thrilled to see the research, decriminalization and legalization of these medicines for healing.
On my journey of self-discovery, personal growth and self-care has been a big priority. My practice is regularly supervised by a mentor, and I am committed to offering a safe container for you. If you are simply stopping by out of curiosity, or you wish to work with me, thank you for being here.
Warmly,
Masiha Shabeer
'Kalika' in Greek means a rose bud, the myth of the rose flower pans across centuries and has been agreat signifactor of love, transformation, healing, beauty and serves a prominent role as a symbol of mystery. The rose, be it in Greco-Roman myths, Islam, Judaism or Christianity, is an alchemical symbol and one which denotes change, with grace and beauty.
The thorns and the petals on a rose aptly describe to us the journey of the opposites coming together within us. The rose with its soft petals and prickly thorns is a beautiful significance of peace, balance and a harmonious union of the Yin-Yang energies.
The rose plant is intricately intertwined among its vines, in reflection of the principles of sacred geometry and the Torus- a symbol of interconnectedness, the eternal flow of energy, and the delicate balance between the physical and meta-physical worlds.
The thorns and rosebuds symbolize that everything is connected on our journey; the bud in its pre-stage, the painful thorn and the beautiful flower in full bloom.
The bud stems from a luminescent beam of light, symbolizing the grace and support we receive from the Divine and the realms unseen. We receive help on our journey that guides us towards a state of wholeness.
The Ouroboros, an ancient alchemical symbol of the serpent eating its own tail. The allegory spanning through many cultures globally has represented the concepts of renewal, repetition, and regeneration.
The Ouroboros denotes that time, as we perceive, it is circular and not linear, similar to thecontinual cycles in our lives. In our life explorations, we discover our innate wisdom. This isinevitably followed by the death of the old. There then is a restoration of our embodied strength, and a rebirth where we transcend to overall well-being. The Ouroboros has been a powerful healingsymbol over millennia. All of these powerful symbols come together to offer you the resources youneed as you journey with us.
